Have you ever wondered just how crazy my life is? lol…. Well, I was thinking that maybe it’s just time to share that information with you. I know that sometimes clients message me and it can take a day or two for me to respond. Here’s a quick sneak peek into what my past week has been like, and it pretty much sums up what a normal week is like.
Sunday and Monday are my only days “off”, which really equals to editing client photos, putting their photos into the galleries online and emailing them out. I also try hard to do my personal home chores, like laundry and grocery shopping during those days. I announced at the beginning of the week that this year my goal or focus would be on Celebrating Motherhood. From maternity, birth stories and the treasure of a newborn session to Timeless Collections of mom’s with their little’s by them … there is so much planned for this year! That started off a very very busy week. My first full week back after the craziness of the holidays and the PPA Imaging USA 2016 convention (https://imagingusa.org).
Tuesday and Wednesday was the 2016 Newborn Retreat, which provided so much good information and training for me. I am a firm believe in the fact that there is always something more you can learn. There will always be new ideas, new tricks, new mentors and new friends to be made. I’m so very happy that I was able to focus on some of this training. However, half way through Wednesday training my mom that is due to deliver any day sent me a message saying she was on her way to the hospital. After sitting in the hospital area with her for about 4 hours, they went her home since she was only in early labor. We are still waiting on the mom to deliver, and like always my phone is on and I’m ready to go!
Thursday morning we started the day off with a cake smash. So fun celebrating little one’s and their first birthdays, and it’s even better when it’s one of your clients that you’ve been watching grow! After the cake smash, it was a quick clean up and studio set up for 2 in studio maternity session. These sessions were part of the immense response to a model call and they couldn’t have been anymore perfect for me! Once they left the studio, it was time to import and edit sneak peek photos. Once of the maternity sessions was a quick (4 hours) Timeless Collection digital painting edit, and sneak peeks went up around 10pm. I also had received a call late in the evening that needed my assistance as a volunteer photographer for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (https://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org). I spent a few hours at the hospital capturing the only portraits that family will ever have of their precious baby.
Friday morning was a newborn session in the morning, a cake smash in the early afternoon and a newborn session in the early evening. I was shooting continuously for around 8/9 hours. Once I was done there, I’m such a stickler for sneak peeks that I imported the photos and got all of the sneak peeks online by again around 10pm. We shot family photos inside of the newborn sessions as well and produced some amazing portraits that will be a valuable collection piece for these families.
Saturday morning started with Truck town at Freedom Crossing on Fort Bliss. It was 4 hours of music, horns blaring, cop and fire truck sirens and SO MANY amazing families. There was cotton candy, popcorn and even a magician! I love our military community and it was so much fun watching them all just have a really good day together! After the truck town there was a child session with a little girl that was not having it, we rescheduled her session after about 25 minutes of trying. Sometimes, they just say No! lol. After that was another newborn session. Sneak peeks up again late at night and then I feel into the bed exhausted.
It has been a very busy week and on top of studio sessions, editing, sneak peeks, hospital visits and my own personal household chores, I am entering a good amount of entries into WPPI’s Annual Print Competition (https://www.wppiawards.com) and have been finishing up those prints, so that I can send them off to be printed and mounted and sent to Vegas for the upcoming WPPI event in March.
So if you have sent me a message, and you’re wondering if I’ve read it or seen it, chances are either I have or Kim has, and rest assured that I will respond to you within one or two business days. I promise, I’m not ignoring you or choosing to just not respond to you. Your business is very very important to me. But as I grow as a business, so does the way I handle things. I have brought on a new assistant. Her name is Kim. My old amazing assistant Dara has PCS’d and is no longer even in the great state of Texas. I am teaching Kim the ways, but this process is not learned over night. It does take awhile to learn everything. Thank you so much for your patience and I hope that this glimpse of my life is just enough to help you understand what it’s like being me.
